Fadlallah: Not to Frame Electronic Media

The head of Information and Communication's Parliamentary Committee MP Hassan Fadlallah stressed that "we can't frame the electronic media sector, which is still blurry."
In an interview with "as-Safir" Lebanese daily, Fadlallah informed that "the Committee is in legislative discussion on serious news sites and websites of media institutions, including written, visual and radio ones."
"One can't adjust what is published on "Facebook" pages for example," the MP added stressing that "we can't put restrictions on a so much opened sector like this."
Stressing that "we can work to institutionalize the sites, protect their legal
status, and provide protect for workers," Fadlallah confirmed that "the committee is finalizing the initial reading of the bill proposed by MP Ghassan Moukheiber in relation to the media including the electronic one."
According to the MP, "the committee is completing its work after reaching the milestone in the discussion of the principles related to electronic media."
Fadlallah also highlighted that "the committee seeks to produce a media law in Lebanon that includes special sections for audio-visual and electronic media."
He further concluded that "we need to take into account the general criteria adopted in a number of countries including, for example, the protection of juveniles and children."
