Lebanon to US Official: Not to Squander a Cupful of Our Sea Water
Lebanon's maritime boundaries and oil rights were tackled during the meetings held by US Special Coordinator for Regional Affairs Frederic Hof with Lebanese figures.
The US official met respectively with House Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Najib Mikati and high-ranking Lebanese Army officers.
"As-Safir" Lebanese paper reported Tuesday that "Speaker Berri told Hof that Lebanon is adamant about preserving its maritime boundaries."
"We are not asking them (i.e. the "Israelis") for an additional cup of water and we will not give them an additional cup of water either ... We want our right."
Stressing to Hof that Lebanon is serious about his position, Berri reiterated "Lebanon's total rejection of any "Israeli" attempt to impose de facto naval boundaries."
Berri further addressed his US guest by saying "prove to us, if only for once, that you can pressure "Israel", not vice versa."
"As-Safir" also reported that "PM Mikati confirmed to Hoff Lebanon's firm position on its maritime borders and its rejection for any negligence to these rights."
