Lavrov: To Support Annan’s Proposals on Syria

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced Tuesday that his country supports a United Nations resolution endorsing UN envoy Kofi Annan's plan for settling the Syrian crisis.
"Russia is ready to back Annan's plan with a UN Security Council resolution," he clarified pointing out that "the Security Council shouldn't interpret Annan's proposals as an ultimatum, but simply as a basis for settling the crisis."
The head of Russia's diplomacy stressed the need to publish proposals Annan made to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during their meetings in Damascus this month and to be put up for an open debate at the Security Council.
During a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart Adnan Mansour in Moscow, Lavrov uncovered that "Moscow was aware of fighters being smuggled from Lebanon, Iraq, and Jordan into Syria."
For his part, Mansour was quoted as saying that "Lebanon was able to control the border to a great extent."
"Lebanon seeks to strengthen its relationship with Russia in various fields and that bilateral trade between the two countries has increased of late," Mansour added.
Concerning the Iranian file, Russia's FM said both "Moscow and Beirut have similar views on Iran's nuclear reactor as well as on the peace process in the Middle East."
