Islamo-Christian meetings final declaration: Bkriki

The Islamo-Christian meeting in Bkiriki comprising leaders from various Lebanese religious sects wrapped up at a final declaration on Sunday.
Having reviewed Arab-Spring related events during the last year, religious representatives expressed deep apprehension at the level of violence and bloodshed meted against the peoples of Syria, Iraq and Palestine.
They however, condoned people's right in liberty and freedom including their free choice of government. They expressed support for a future independent Palestinian State with al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital.
They agreed to hold regular meetings over hot domestic and Arab issues.
Religious dignitaries also opted for continued national dialogue for the purpose of domestic resolution of conflicts and preferred to keep social and economic files away from politics.
They offered condolences to the Egyptian people at the passing away of head of the Orthodox Coptic Church of Egypt Shenouda III.
Moreover, the Heads also offered condolences to the Syrian people at the passing away of Druze Akl of Syria in his hometown of Soueida.
On his part, Maronite patriarch Bechara Rai, underscored the significance of Islamo-Christian dialogue during the inter-confessional meeting under his patronage in Bkirki.
The Patriarch who welcomed inter-denominational dignitaries thanked them for their efforts deemed useful to further inter-confessional peaceful coexistence. He argued that dialogue is the best way for conflict-resolution between various sects. Rahi opted for a continued open dialogue between various religious heads in view of ongoing unforeseen developments at the local and regional levels.
The Patriarch concluded that talking is the best guarantee for Lebanese National unity.
