Arslan: Druze’s General Position with Syrian State

Head of Lebanese Democratic Party MP Talal Arslan expressed confidence of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's intentions to implement reform and to allow the real opposition to share in the government.
During his meeting with the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly, Arslan wondered about the possibility of controlling the armed opposition groups as the Syrian leadership showed readiness to cooperate with the UN envoy Kofi Annan's plan.
"The general Druze's position in Syria stands by the state and is keen on preserving stability and unity of the country,"Arslan stated accusing some "media outlets of amplifying what is happening in Syria in the interests of some countries benefiting from the chaos in the Middle East."
For his part, Plumbly said that "the issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon should not be influenced by political disputes and should be addressed from a humanitarian perspective."
"The Security Council is expected to reach an international nearness on Annan's plan that will help in controlling the situation," the UN official concluded.
