Gebran Bassil: Calling for participation does not mean changing the political system
Source: NowLebanon, 22-01-2008
FPM Political Relations Officer Gebran Bassil said that when some factions call for participation, it does not mean changing the system but respecting the constitutional-consensus formula which is the base of the Taif Agreement.
"Every faction is trying to hold the other responsible for obstructing the Arab initiative," Bassil said after his visit to ex-Premier Omar Karami.
"Since Moussa's arrival in Beirut, the opposition did not propose any suggestions but dealt positively with the Arab League initiative during the quartet meeting and follow-up meetings," he said.
Bassil noted that the media is accusing the opposition of imposing impossible conditions and trying to change the political system in Lebanon. "These claims are pure imagination," he said.
"If the Arab initiative can reinstate our rights, we will support it. If not, we will reject it," Bassil added.
