MP Salim Aoun: The opposition is calling for true partnership
Source: NowLebanon, 25-1-2008
MP Salim Aoun of the Change and Reform bloc said that the adoption of an unjust interpretation of the Arab initiative by the Arab foreign ministers means that the initiative has failed.
"As if they would be asking the opposition to surrender and eliminate itself politically," Aoun told Voice of Lebanon radio station.
"The opposition has sent a memorandum to the Arab foreign ministers calling for justice."
"The memorandum includes the rights we have been calling for publically. It is a written document and not mere statements and speeches," Aoun noted.
"The opposition is calling for true partnership," he added.
According to Aoun, the initiative needs an implementation framework in order to succeed. "We are asking Arab ministers to get into the game of numbers, for this is a domestic issue that we Lebanese must solve."
"Arab foreign ministers must be neutral without favoring one side on another," Aoun declared.
He also said that it is not enough to express support to the Arab initiative, "but it needs to be implemented."
"The initiative seems to be just, but there seems to be injustice in interpreting it," he declared.
