The Lebanese opposition addresses a memorandum to Arab foreign ministers
Source: Nowlebanon, 25-1-2008
The Lebanese opposition and the Lebanese National Gathering sent a memorandum to Arab foreign ministers welcoming their role in Lebanon.
"The Arab meeting in Cairo proved the need for an inter-Lebanese agreement over a package deal containing three interrelated clauses: the presidential elections, the establishment of a national-unity government ensuring participation, and an agreement over the government's political platform, including a new electoral law," the memorandum said.
Arab foreign ministers in their initiative on Lebanon had called for the immediate election of Army Commander General Michel Sleiman as president in addition to the establishment of a national-unity government and the adoption of a new electoral law.
"The achievement of justice in the formula ensuring the participation of all factions is a sine qua non condition to ensure stability through balance and communal living."
"Every time this balance is not respected, stability in Lebanon is in danger. We hope that Arab society will not take sides with any faction so that the Arab initiative generates a solution," it added.
