Security sourced cautioned that "this dangerous incident may result in disturbing the relations between the two countries, especially since the Syrian side had demanded more than once the Lebanese authorities to control the borders with Syria."

In this context, Syrian officials reiterated that "the Lebanese Army must deploy its unit along the Northern Lebanese borders to enforce security and repel the armed groups that target Syrian army and border soldiers centers."
The sources unveiled that "these armed groups deliberately target Syrian sites deployed on the borders from behind or near some Lebanese security points."

"This was clearly uncovered when the groups targeted the Syria side from a region close to that of the Internal Security Forces point in Wadi Khaled," they added.

In details, 9 gunmen sneaked into a farm near the security point and stationed in one of the buildings. They launched Inerga shells, rocket-propelled grenades, and fire machine guns on Syrian sites and towns adjacent to the Lebanese territories.
This required a response from the Syrian Army members on fire sources. The clashes lasted about three hours as the firing ended nearly half past three in the morning. However, it was repeated from al-Arida town at 5 in the morning .

In parallel, other armed groups attacked the positions of the Syrian army along the northern border in more than one town and region, most notably from Hnaizer town in Wadi Khaled. From that town, armed groups opened a wide battle as they fired heavily from the inside Lebanese territory on Syrian territories.
As the armed groups were firing machine guns from residential areas, Syrian army responded. This led to the death of Nadia Alauichi, 19 and the injury of the two children: Ahmed and Mustafa al-Mekhal.

Meanwhile, the National News Agency reported that two RPG shells, hit the town of Heesha in Wady Khaled, killing two and wounding two others.
This came as the security situation deteriorated in the Northern Lebanese border villages.
The clashes between the Syrian army and insurgents spread fear and panic among the people of these towns. Thus, some preferred to leave their homes and flee to areas far from the border
