Suleiman Concluded Visit to France: No Syrian Military Operation in Northern Lebanon

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman concluded Thursday his two-day official visit to France with a meeting held with his French counterpart Francois Hollande.
In this context, "as-Safir" Lebanese daily reported that "Suleiman invited his French counterpart to visit Beirut and the latter promised to do so, without setting a date for the visit."
"The Lebanese President was informed that the French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian will visit Beirut soon," the paper added.
It further denied that Suleiman received any French promise regarding the arming of the Lebanese Army and particularly with French "al-Ghazal" helicopters supplied with missiles.
On another level, Suleiman reiterated that "there is no spread to the so-called Free Syrian Army on the Lebanese territories, and especially in the north."
"As long as the LA deploys its units in the Northern region, there will be no Syrian military operation in North Lebanon," the head of the state assured.
Suleiman also discussed the issue of assassinations, insisting on its seriousness of it. He further emphasized the need to deliver telecommunication data to the concerned security services without violating judicial and legal conditions.
The President clarified that he "did not hear any demands from the French side and that Paris is interested in Lebanon's stability and the preservation of its sovereignty and security."
In parallel, Suleiman explained to the French president that "the Syrian people are heading towards democracy.
"Violence must be excluded from Syria so that the political process takes its way under the supervision of United Nations," Suleiman said and pointed out that "Lebanon refuses any international military intervention in the Syrian crisis."
On another level, Hollande assured his Lebanese counterpart that his troops will remain part of the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon.
