MP Nasser Nasrallah of the Development and Liberation bloc headed by Speaker Nabih Berri said Sunday's incidents are the result of the general political climate in Lebanon.
"Political discourse, standard-of-living issues and the miscalculations of officials caused this tension," he told the Saudi daily Okaz.
"There is an unknown party who was behind the escalation of the situation on Sunday and who benefited from the shooting that took place," Nasrallah said.
Nasrallah said he is waiting for the result of the Lebanese army's investigations into who shot the protesters.
"It is being said that snipers where hiding behind the army and shooting at people. But we don't know who they are."
Nasrallah stressed on the need to control the street protests and reduce tensions.
"Security services must control the streets," he added.
