Hizbullah: Sleiman candidacy is not connected with the riot investigations
Source: NowLebanon, 01-02-2008
Hizbullah politburo member Ghaleb Abu Zeinab said that the presidential candidacy of Army Commander General Michel Sleiman is not associated with the results of the investigation into the Dahiyeh protests last Sunday.
"This investigation is very important for Hizbullah and must be conducted in order to preserve the army's high standing and the credibility of its commander, irrespective of other matters," Abu Zeinab told NOW Lebanon.
Commenting on Minister Ahmed Fatfat's statement that the opposition pressed the army to get involved in the internal conflict and tried to depict its commander as no longer being a consensus candidate, Abu Zeinab said, "These are the wishes of Fatfat and the majority."
"The opposition is aware of these intentions and will not allow their success. We want the army to be side-by-side with the resistance to safeguard Lebanon," Abu Zeinab said.
