"As-Safir" Lebanese newspaper reported Wednesday that the Lebanese oil issue was present during a recent tense between House Speaker Nabih Berri and the Personal Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Lebanon, Derek Plumbly.

In a Tense Meeting with Plumbly, Berri: Not To Compromise A Cup of Our Oil Rights
According to the daily, Plumply asked Berri annoying questions about the situation in the South.
"He then moved to tackle the issue of Lebanese exclusive economic zone and oil wealth," the paper highlighted.
It further mentioned that Berri suggested that both Lebanon and the Zionist entity abstain from oil exploration and drilling in the disputed region, pending a solution to the ongoing conflict.
" It is the duty of the United Nations to contribute to the demarcation of maritime borders pursuant to resolution 1701," "as-Safir" quoted Berri as saying.

"However, Plumbly didn't respond positively to Berri's suggestions. Thus, the Speaker addressed him sharply, after carrying a cup of water, by saying: " Let it be known that we will not compromise on an amount of this cup of water of our maritime borders and oil rights," the daily said.
In parallel, the Speaker viewed that "the data disclosed by Energy Minister Gibran Basil, in his recent tour, confirms the correctness of what I have been saying about the presence of significant quantities of oil in Lebanese waters."

"The scientific facts that the three-dimensional survey of the southern exclusive region unveiled constitute a major development and an important step in Lebanon's trip of oil drilling," Berri told "as-Safir".

He further urged the government to expedite the formation of the governing body of oil sector in order to proceed in the exploration procedures.
In this context, Berri revealed that both Amal and Hizbullah forwarded the name of the Shiite post in the body.

"We offer all possible capabilities in order to facilitate the birth of the body," he said.
