Multiple Car Bombings Kill 15 in Iraq

Five car bombs during morning rush hour in a southern Iraqi city and a town north of Baghdad on Monday killed 15 people, officials said, just days before the country's first elections since 2010.
Three car bombs that went off minutes apart in Tuz Khurmatu, killed fifteen people and wounded 165, while two other vehicles packed with explosives exploded in Nasiriyah, wounding many.

In Tuz, which lies 175 kilometers from Baghdad, the three car bombs struck in the center and east of the town at around 8:00 am, according to a provincial council member and a doctor.

And in Nasiriyah, 305 kilometers south of the capital, one of the car bombs detonated in a market and the other went off in an area filled with vehicle repair shops, police and a medical source said.
The attacks, in the capital, and in Kirkuk, Tuz Khurmato and Samarra to the north and Nassiriya to the south, came days before Iraqis vote in provincial elections that are a test of political stability.

On Sunday, a series of attacks in Iraq killed 10 people, including a candidate running in the forthcoming provincial elections.

On April 12, a dozen people were killed and over 30 others injured in a bomb attack near a mosque north of Baghdad. The explosion occurred as worshipers were leaving Omar bin Abdul Aziz Mosque in the town of Kanaan, about 75 kilometers northeast of the capital, after the Friday Prayers.
A dozen people, including several Iraqi security officers, were also killed in Baghdad and in the city of Tikrit on April 1.
