A series of car bombings hit neighborhoods across the capital Baghdad on Wednesday evening, killing at least 29 people and wounding 70, according to latest counts.

Bombings in Iraq Kill at Least 29The day began violently when an explosives-laden car parked in the center of Kirkuk blew up at around 3:00 p.m. An hour later, another parked car bomb exploded in the same area, killing two children and their parents, the city's deputy police chief Maj. Gen. Torhan Abdul-Rahman Youssef stated.

Car bombs hit Kadhimiyah and Sadr City in north Baghdad, Saidiyah in the south and Mashtal, Baghdad Jadida and al-Husseiniyah in the east, while a roadside bomb in the Zafraniyah area killed two police, security and medical officials stated.
Iraqiya state television quoted the security command responsible for Baghdad as saying four more car bombs were defused in the capital that day.

Charred human remains were placed in a bag on a stretcher in Kirkuk. An emergency worker broke down in tears nearby from the devastating scene of the rubble-strewn street.
"I saw a bright flash followed by a strong explosion that shook the building. Glass was shattered everywhere, people immediately ran to the scene and started evacuating the wounded and the dead," said Jabar al-Rubaie, a policeman at the scene in Sadr City district in Baghdad.

Civilians joined forces with rescuers and policemen in searching for survivors in a partially damaged house after the first explosion in Kirkuk.
One channel broadcasted images from the capital's Zafraniyah district, where many houses were partially damaged and several cars were in flames. Ambulances evacuated victims and a man ran holding a wounded child.

The Wednesday violence came a day after attacks killed 16 people in Iraq, including 12 shot dead when gunmen attacked a row of alcohol shops in Baghdad.
