Lebanese President Michel Suleiman asked the state prosecutor's office Wednesday to press charges against Future MP in Tripoli Mohammad Kabbara for being complicit in instigating violence in Tripoli.
According to the National News Agency, Suleiman "asked the Public Prosecution to file a lawsuit against MP Mohammed Abdul Latif Kabbara for accusing the president of collusion against Tripoli."
The move came in reaction to a statement read by Kabbara following a meeting of Tripoli politicians and religious figures at his residence, in which they accused the president and the Lebanese Army of providing political cover to the Arab Democratic Party.
"Politicians, the president, the Army commander and the Army seem as though they are complicit with the Syrian and Iranian regimes by [protecting] this armed gang," the statement said, referring to the ADP.
Kabbara further called on Suleiman, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Army Chief Jean Qahwaji and the army to "shoulder their responsibilities" and prove that they are "seriously entrusted with the country's unity and the safety of its people."
