Lebanese Caretaker Defense Minister, Fayez Ghosn, warned Thursday that the situation in the North has reached a dangerous sliding edge after the security turned to a hostage in the hands of those who are manipulating people and their lives.
He further warned that if the security in the North continued deteriorating, the whole country will be dragged into a big dangerous crisis that won't be easy to overcome.
In parallel, Ghosn stressed that the gunmen who are deliberately killing and intimidating people neither represent Tripoli nor belong to its distinctive national and social fabric.
"Those who attempt to tamper with the cords of sectarianism and fabricate lies and rumors betting on creating a division one segment of the Lebanese people and their national army, will absolutely fail in reaching their desired goals," the minister assured.
Moreover, he stated that "the Lebanese faith in their army is firmer and deeper that the delusional schemes."
"The response to those attempts would be through embracing the Lebanese army and rallying around it, notably at these critical circumstances," Ghosn said.
On the army's measures, the top defense official affirmed that all of the Lebanese army's actions fall in the supreme national interest and civil peace protection, rather than driven by political calculations.
"All army actions in the north fall in the interest of the people of the region in the aim of protecting their security, stability and livelihood," Ghosn said.
Ghosn stressed that the army is proceeding with measures to restore tranquility and security to the northern area, affirming the army is carrying out its national duties in protecting people regardless of their various affiliations and without any discrimination.
