The head of the Lebanese Attawhid Party and former minister Wi'am Wahhab on Monday called on the Lebanese people to raise pictures of former Prime Minister Martyr Rafik Hariri on their balconies on Thursday to mark the third anniversary of his assassination. Wahhab who is also a Druze, retorted at MP Walid Jumblatt's belligerent speech. "You want chaos? We welcome chaos. You want war? We welcome war," Jumblatt said at a press conference Sunday.
"We will stop you from waging a civil war. You are weak to launch a civil war and if you do, rockets will land in your bedroom. If you wage war, know that we will settle it with you within days," Wahhab said in a press conference. The former minister described the way Jumblatt and MP Saad Hariri are exploiting the February 14 event as a referendum for civil war. "However Hariri's words are of no value. This man watches too much action movies at night," the Tawhid party chief said. Wahhab also accused Saudi Arabia of "taking the decision to make war in Lebanon."
Wahhab also accused the ruling bloc of "kidnapping" the four senior officers as they have been detained in the Hariri assassination case but not yet charged with anything.
"We will make the wives, daughters, sons and family members of those officer cry blood on them when their gallows are set," Jumblatt threatened the families of the officers in his press conference.
Another Druze leader said that Jumblatt's escalatory position comes in the frameworks of sparking strife and militia related, ethical and psychological backgrounds. Former Minister and head of the Lebanese Democratic Party Talal Erslan stressed he will not allow Jumblatt to use the Druze sect for personal ends. "The circumstances in 2008 have changed and pardoning warlords similar to what had happened after civil war will not recur. Those who make mistakes will be held accountable," Erslan warned.
Senior Lebanese detainee in Israeli jails Samir Kintar denounced Jumblatt's position as "strained". Kintar's lawyer in Hadareem prison in occupied Palestine delivered his letter that said: "Jumblatt's attitudes reflect the state of fear he's living in. He's gambling with the country along with his allies in favor of their masters in Washington and Tel Aviv".
"We refuse to attain our freedom through him (Jumblatt) and his allies, even if it caused us to stay behind bars for the rest of our lives. He should leave this issue to real men, and to the leader of the liberation movement Hezbollah's Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah", Kintar, who is also a Druze added. He dismissed Jumblatt's threats to capture resistance rockets by reminding him that the "arrogant power of his masters failed to come near these rockets throughout thirty three days of war. Therefore Jumblatt is too small to be in the shoes of a resistance fighter," Kintar concluded.
