MP Nicolas: Crimes committed after 1982 should be included in the Special Tribunal
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 12-2-2008
MP Nabil Nicolas of the Change and Reform bloc said that the third commemoration of the assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri is for all Lebanese and must be an occasion for unity, not division.
"Let us remember that Hariri worked for uniting Lebanon, not dividing it," Nicolas told the Kuwaiti news agency KONA.
Nicolas also expressed his rejection of some parties using the February 14 commemoration to provoke people against each other.
"For the Free Patriotic Movement, February 14 is a sad occasion but bears hope for the future so that the blood of martyr Rafik Hariri will not be wasted," Nicolas said.
"The FPM is supporting the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, and it was the first one to call for its establishment," he said.
"We demand that all crimes committed as of 1982 be included in the tribunal's coverage," Nicolas added.
He reiterated the opposition's stance over the Arab initiative. "We are still holding on to the initiative, but not interpretations that do not reflect its spirit."
Nicolas spoke of the attempts to undermine the Memorandum of Understanding between Hizbullah and the Free Patriotic Movement.
"The aim behind this is to thwart national unity," he said.
