Four people were murdered, including two members of the Jaafar clan, when their car came under gunfire in Arsal's barren mountains.
The unidentified assailants shot dead "two members of the Jaafar family, an Amhaz family member and a Turk" in an ambush while they were smuggling fuel through the Qaa area, a security source told Agence France Presse, asking not to be named.
He had initially identified the victims as four Lebanese and said a fifth man was seriously wounded.
The incident occurred in an agricultural part of Qaa.
The National News Agency said the four were murdered while inside a Cherokee vehicle in the Rafeq valley in the barren mountains of the town of Ras Baalbek, identifying them as Ali Karami Jaafar, Mohammed Ali Ahmed Jaafar, Hussein Sharif Amhaz and Ali Haidar, "a Turkish national whose mother is from the Lebanese family of Seifeddine and who is a resident of the town of al-Nabi Othman."
According to the Lebanese Army statement, "tension rose in a number of Baalbek-Hermel towns coupled with armed manifestations."
Thus, the LA units immediately ran patrols and established checkpoints in the region, in a bid to restore conditions to normal.
It further disclosed that investigations have begun into the incident, in a bid to unveil the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Furthermore, the Army Command has urged all citizens and Beqaa families to rise above their wounds and practice self-restraint and patience during the current delicate circumstances witnessed in the country.
It stressed that such incidents shall not be allowed to target national unity and coexistence between citizens of the same community.
