Around 51 Dead in Series of Bomb Attacks across Iraq

A series of coordinated bombings across Iraq killed at least 51 and wounded dozens on Sunday.
One of the deadliest attacks came in the evening when a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a cafe packed with young people in the al-Ameen neighborhood in southeastern Baghdad, which killed 11 and wounded 25.
"It seems the terrorists are targeting any place they can, no matter what it is," he said. "The main things for them are to kill as many Iraqis as they can and keep the people living in fear," Clothes shop owner Saif Hameed said.
There was no claim of responsibility for any of the attacks, but they seemed to be al-Qaeda in Iraq, which uses car bombs, suicide bombers and coordinated attacks.
Sunday's bombs began with a parked car bomb that exploded early in the morning in the city of Kut, killing six people and wounding 15 others, followed by another car bomb outside the city that killed five and wounded 12.
As for the city of Basra in southern Iraq, a car bomb exploded, then as police and rescuers rushed to the scene, a second car exploded, killing six people.
An hour later, car bombs blasted in the southern city of Nasiriyah southeast of Baghdad, killing two and wounding 19.
In the holy city of Najaf, a bomb exploded in a supermarket, killing eight and wounding 28.
Moreover, bombs in Hillah, Mahmoudiya and Madain, all south of Baghdad claimed seven lives, and two policemen were killed in the northern city of Tuz Khormato by a bomb.
In addition, gunmen attacked policemen in Mosul northwest Baghdad, killing four and wounding five.
Nearly 2,000 have been killed since the start of April, including more than 180 this month.
