Iran Warns of Egypt’s Division

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian expressed his concern over escalation of violence in Egypt.
Speaking to IRNA, the diplomat said Tehran pays due attention to presence of Egyptian people in the political scene and considers it as a national asset.
Amir-Abdollahian stressed that "Mohamed Mursi was elected as the Egypt's President by majority of votes."
He further warned the Egyptian nation against conspiracies hatched by foreign powers.
In parallel, the official urged the Egyptian armed forces, which played a pivotal role in defeating the enemies and preparing grounds for the country's revolution, to do their utmost in supporting the national dialogue and safeguarding the peoples ballot box.
"Dividing the Egyptian nation yields no gain," he said, adding that respecting people's vote was "of utmost importance for Egypt's stability".
This comes after the Egyptian army on Monday issued an ultimatum to Mursi, threatening to intervene in 48 hours and impose its own "road map" if he did not meet the demands of the people.
The army's warning came just a day after millions of protesters took to the streets across Egypt, calling Mursi to step down.
