Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Mouallem said he expected that whoever killed top Hizbullah militant Imad Moghnieh in Damascus on Tuesday will soon be found.
"We expect to hear shortly the results of the probe into this despicable crime," he told a joint news conference with his Iranian counterpart, Manouchehr Mottaki, who arrived in Damascus after attending Moghnieh's funeral in Beirut.
"We will present tangible proof of who committed this crime. The Syrian security services are continuing their investigation into this terrorist act," he added.
Calling Moghnieh the backbone of the Lebanese resistance against "Israel", Mouallem said his death in a car bombing in Damascus late on Tuesday had also "assassinated all efforts for peace."
Moghnieh was a top Hizbullah commander linked to a series of attacks against "Israeli" targets in the 1980s and 1990s.
His killing in a residential suburb of the Syrian capital has been widely blamed on "Israel", which welcomed the news but denied involvement.
"The Zionist entity will not harvest the fruit" of its assassination of Moghnieh, Mottaki said at the news conference. Tehran has also accused "Israel" of being behind the killing.
