The United Nations Security Council condemned Friday the deadly car bombing in the Dahyieh [the Southern Suburb of Beirut], describing it as a "terrorist attack," and urged Lebanon to maintain its policy of disassociation toward the crisis in Syria.

UN Denounces Dahyieh’s Terrorist Attack"The members of the Security Council strongly condemn the terrorist attack ... and extend their condolences to the victims and their families," according to a UN statement.
The Council also said it rejected all forms of terrorism because it constitutes "one of the most serious threats to international peace and security."
"Any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed," the statement said.

The members of the Security Council stressed the need to bring the perpetrators to justice and appealed to all Lebanese people "to preserve national unity in the face of attempts to undermine the country's stability."
It also stressed the importance for all Lebanese parties to respect Beirut's policy of self-disassociation and to refrain from any involvement in Syria crisis, consistent with their commitment in the Baabda Declaration.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also strongly condemned the car bombing in Beirut and urged all Lebanese to remain united in the face of such "unacceptable" violence.

In a statement, the UN chief expressed his condolences over those who were killed and extended his deepest sympathies to the wounded.

"Such acts of violence are completely unacceptable and only reinforce the determination of the international community to continue supporting Lebanon's security and stability at a time of severe regional turbulence," said the statement.
It further added: "During this period of heightened tensions, the secretary-general urges all Lebanese to remain united, to rally around their state institutions and to focus on safeguarding Lebanon's security and stability."
