Red Cross Concerned Over Palestinian Hunger-Strikers in ’Israeli’ Jails
Local Editor
The International Committee of the Red Cross expressed concern on Saturday over the health of seven hunger-striking Palestinians held by "Israeli" authorities.
"The ICRC is particularly worried about Imad Abdelaziz Abdullah al-Batran, who has been on hunger strike for several weeks," the ICRC mentioned in a statement.
According to the Palestinian Prisoners' Club, Batran, who was being held without trial, has been refusing food since May 5.
The Club's spokesperson Amani Sarahna told AFP Batran had been suffering a critical medical condition prior to his detention and had worsened since.
Sarahna said there were currently eight Palestinians held by "Israeli" jails on hunger strike, some long-term prisoners and others detainees.
