Yedioth Ahronoth: ’Israelis’ Divided, Fear Civil War
Local Editor
"Israeli" fear from civil war
Yedioth Ahronoth published an article by the journalist Amnon Shamosh in which he said that "the "Israeli" society is divided in many fields, but the only division is the one that includes the possibility of a civil war between those who mourned Yitzhak Rabin and those who didn't."
In his article, Shamosh wrote, "We have to realize that radicalism, if not treated and religious and nationalist radicalism conciliated, is lethal."
"Every one of these parties believes the other is his main enemy while they forget that he is surrounded by real enemies," he added.
"The reason behind this is because there is a human inclination towards wars and civil wars also, and we could have noticed these roots before we became a nation like every other," he said.
"Jewish history is filled with wars with neighbors and large forces, but is also filled with civil wars that have brought about it destruction and chaos," Shamosh mentioned in his article.
"The "Israeli" people's independence periods in their land were brief because of his attitude and the civil and religious partition among them," he further viewed.
Amnon concluded his article by saying that verbal civil war paves the path for bloodshed, and "this increases our worrying momentum."
"There are a lot of weapons, anger, despair, and secession in this tiny country, and the spark is nearer than we think," he stressed.
