Brainstorming Facebook: New Emotion Button for Sad Occasions

Local Editor
Facebook is considering introducing a ‘sympathize' button so that users can express more somber emotions.
Engineers at a brainstorming event for the social network said that the idea was well received and they enjoyed having more options than just to ‘like' something.
Users would select a negative feeling like ‘depressed' from a set list of emotions when commenting on something.
Instead of ‘like', your status would then be changed to ‘sympathise' instead.
Until now the ‘like' button has proved a blunt tool for many users for gloomy occasions such as the death of a pet.
Bad news such as the changing of a relationship status from ‘married' to ‘divorced' has also stretched the limits of the feature.
Facebook engineer named Dan Muriello said that he imagined the feature would be ‘five people sympathize with this,' instead of ‘five people ‘like' this'.
