A court in Egypt has ordered the release on bail of a prominent activist on trial for joining anti-military regime protests, almost four months after custody.
Alaa Abdel-Fattah, charged with breaking the country's new protest law, was released on Sunday as the army-installed regime is very much trying to quell the political unrest in the Arab country.

Court Orders Abdel-Fattah’s Release on Bail: Egypt

Abdel-Fattah, who was a leading figure in the 2011 uprising against former dictator Hosni Mubarak, was arrested last November along with 24 other people for organizing a protest gathering outside the Senate in Cairo.

At the time, the activists were protesting a Senate panel decision to draft a new constitution, which would have given sweeping powers to the army.
Human rights groups have denounced the army-installed authorities for bringing the case against Abdel-Fattah and other defendants.

Egyptian authorities have arrested thousands of protesters following Morsi's ouster by the military in July, and put on trial many more, including members of the now-outlawed Muslim Brotherhood movement.

In the latest case, over 1,200 Brotherhood members, including the organization's spiritual leader, Mohamed Badie, are to stand trial on charges of inciting violence. The session was due on Saturday, but the court adjourned it until Monday.
