Man in Germany Faces Terrorism Charges Over Fighting in Syria
Local Editor
German prosecutors said on Thursday that they charged a man with membership in a terrorist organization in Syria, after he went to fight with militants there.
Harun P., whose last name was not given in accordance with privacy laws, was also charged with involvement in manslaughter and attempted incitement to murder.
Prosecutors said on Thursday he traveled to Syria in September and joined the terroist group, Jund al-Sham.
They also said he took part in a February operation to free fighters from a government prison, in which at least two Syrian soldiers were killed.
Moreover, the man is also alleged to have unsuccessfully urged the killing of two people who wanted to bring their 16-year-old relative to Germany, because he feared she would inform on him.
He was arrested in Czech Republic's city of Prague in April and returned to Germany.
