A dire performance saw defending champions Spain dumped out of the World Cup 2-0 by a plucky Chile side in Group B Wednesday.

Eduardo Vargas struck for Chile in the 19th minute following a sizzling break by the South Americans, before Aranguiz compounded Iker Casillas' disastrous campaign, capitalizing on the Real Madrid keeper's error for Chile's second just before halftime.

Chile joined Holland, who defeated Australia 3-2 earlier, in the second round and the pair will face each other in a shootout for Group B's top spot Monday June 23.

Spain, conversely, align themselves with Brazil [1966], France [2002] and Italy [2010] as the four defending champions to exit the competition in the group stage.
