Netanyahu Backs Iraqi Kurdistan’s Independence: We Need to Deploy along Jordan
Local Editor
"Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that the Zionist entity needs to maintain military presence along the Jordan border so as to defend itself from the threat of extremist forces, in a speech in the occupied territories on Sunday.
In a speech to the so-called Institute of National Security Studies think-tank in Tel Aviv on Sunday, Netanyahu stressed that in any future agreement with the Palestinian authorities, ""Israel" will have to remain along the Jordan river for a very long period of time."
"Our first challenge is to protect our borders. Extremist...forces are knocking on our doors in the north and south and we've set up obstacles against them, except for in one sector," Netanyahu said, referring to the border with Jordan.
He further warned that ""Israel" must build a security
barrier along that border, which would run from Eilat all the way up to
the Golan Heights.
He said, "We must be able to stop the "terrorism" and "fundamentalism" that can reach us from the east at the Jordan line and not in the suburbs of Tel Aviv."
Netanyahu has called for "support in the international efforts to strengthen Jordan" following reports over the weekend that "Israel" might be called to help Jordan in the war against the so-called "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" [ISIL].
He added, "I think it's our common interest to make sure that a "moderate," stable regime like [Jordan] is able to defend itself."
Additionally, Netanyahu also called for independence for Iraq's Kurdistan region saying that, "We need to support efforts by the international community to strengthen Jordan and support the aspirations of the Kurds for independence."
However, Netanyahu split with Washington on the issue of Kurdish independence even as he urged the US to adopt "Israel's" position on Iran when the P5+1 countries begin another round of nuclear talks this week.
