British Extremist Killed in Syria Conflict
Local Editor
A former British supervisor at UK-based Primark clothing retailer who joined one of the world's most feared Takfiri militant groups has recently been killed in Syria during a battle with government troops.
Rahman was shot dead in a gun fight, said his family. It is not known where in Syria Rahman was killed.
Muhammad Hamidur Rahman was one of an estimated 500 Britons who went to Syria to trigger insurgency on behalf of the notorious so-called "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" [ISIL] militant group.
According to terrorism experts at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalization [ICSR] at King's College in London, the latest killing brings the death toll of British militants in Syria to 19.
Rahman is the second British extremist from Portsmouth to die in Syria. The first was his friend Iftekhar Jaman, 23, who died in December.
Furthermore, Rahman's father said that Jaman went to Syria first at the beginning of last year in 2013, and then took his son there by contacting him through social media.
