More than a thousand people have been taken into custody awaiting charges and 58 have been arrested during nationwide protests in Turkey over the past week, according to figures given by Turkey's Interior Minister Efkan Ala on Friday.

More than 1000 in Custody, 58 Arrests over Nationwide Protests in Turkey
The death toll stands at thirty one, with a total of 221 people who were injured.

The protests came as the Kurdistan Workers' Party [PKK] called for combat against so-called "Daesh" [ISIL] extremists besieging the border town of Kobani in Syria.

Turkish officials have said the country is against supporting PYD [an offshoot of PKK in Syria] in Kobani with military and financial aid, even if Turkey fights against Daesh.

The nationwide protests broke out after Daesh militants penetrated the town of Kobani, known as Ayn al-Arab, recently on Monday.
