Lebanese newspapers discussed on Monday the dialogue between Hizbullah and the Future movement, as well as the file of the abducted soldiers remaining in hands of the terrorist groups. The latest developments in Syria were also given much attention, focusing on the regional fight against Daesh ["ISIL"].
As-Safir newspaper wrote that the Lebanese arena, despite the ongoing presidency void enjoys the positive environment casted out by the dialogue held between the Future movement and Hizbullah as well as the upcoming dialogue between the two major Christian camps in Lebanon.
On the security level, the paper said that the Lebanese army has newly adopted measures on the roads leading Arsal outskirts only aimed at protecting Arsal locals from terrorists. On Saturday, the Lebanese army issued a statement in which it prohibited transport form and to the outskirts of Arsal without prior permission from the Lebanese Army intelligence.
Commenting on the protests carried out by some of Arsal's people on the matter, military sources told as-Safir that the main aim is the protection of the people, especially that some of the terrorist fighters have taken it a habit to smuggle into some of their supporters' houses in Arsal to eat and drink and get provided with what they need. The source noted the measures will run on all the Lebanese, including the citizens of Arsal who will be given a monthly permit to facilitate their movement.
The sources also revealed the presence of a camp in the outskirts where the families of the terrorist fighters live, a conclusion the army reached after a number of investigations with some smugglers.
On another note, as-Safir daily touched on the tour of Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rai in the Bekaa, declaring his support and solidarity with the martyrs of the Lebanese army and the Resistance, who were ‘sacrifices for the sake of the country'.
"I have come here to salute the Lebanese army and the Resistance," al-Rai said during one of the visits to a family of a martyred soldier.
As for the Future-Hizbullah dialogue, sources told the paper that both sides are keen on making the dialogue succeed, considering it a small example to an Iranian-Saudi dialogue. Moreover, the source said that the Christian dialogue which is to include Head of the Free Patriotic movement Gen. Michel Aoun and head of the Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea will be much easier than the former. Sources had told as-Safir that the ‘summit' between is only a matter of days.
For its part, an-Nahar newspaper wrote that the Patriarch's visit to the Northern Bekaa overshadowed the dialogue, in an attempt to ease the tension among the families of the army martyrs who were killed by the terrorist groups in Arsal. Also, the paper highlighted that the measures taken in Arsal are to protect the people of the area in first place, unlike the claims being said that it is a conspiracy against them.
Al-Akhbar newspaper further touched on the Patriarch's visit to the Bekaa, noting that during his visit to the house of the martyred soldier Abbas Medlej, al-Rai said "The martyrdom of Abbas is a great loss, especially that he is a martyr in the army and his father is in the resistance. I have come to salute the Lebanese army and the resistance from here."
As for the Aoun-Geagea meeting, al-Akhbar quoted sources that no date has been set yet for the meeting adding that the only contact currently is through MP Ibrahim Kenaan.
As for the Hizbullah-Future Dailogue, Deputy Hizbullah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said that the dialogue is useful for Lebanon, because it brings viewpoints closer and helps in solving some stuck matters. He called for filling the presidential void and activating the state institutions, assuring that sacrifices have to be made to reach the appropriate solution.
