Syrian Opposition Receives Moscow Invitation to Syria Talks

Local Editor
The main Western-backed Syrian opposition group has begun a three-day meeting to discuss a range of issues, including a Russian initiative to hold peace talks in Moscow to broker a resolution to Syria's war.

The so-called "Syrian National Coalition" is also expected to elect a new chief during the closed-door proceedings that opened Friday in Istanbul.
In details, the Russian consul-general in Istanbul, Alexey Erkhov, formally invited five senior members of the Syrian National Coalition to the proposed talks during a meeting on Wednesday. Invitations were issued for Hadi al-Bahra, and other members:
Abdulahad Astepho, Badr Jamous, Abdul Basit Sida and Salah Darwish to attend talks with the Syrian officials in Moscow between January 26-29.
Russian diplomats have been meeting with the Syrian government and the coalition to try to arrange talks without preconditions.
The Coalition has not ruled out participating, but has so far conditioned that any negotiated settlement be based on the so-called Geneva platform.
The Syrian government has said it's ready to attend.
