Hariri: Dialogue Should be Lebanon's Recourse
The speech delivered Hizbullah Secretary General His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on the ceremony held to commemorate the anniversary of the martyr leaders on Monday made the headlines of Lebanese newspapers on Tuesday.
Papers followed on the content of the speech, highlighting the positive domestic messages he launched, most important of which was assuring the importance of dialogue and its continuation with the Future party as well as agreeing on a strategy to fight terrorism. Again, papers touch on how Hizbullah becomes a regional player with the latest developments taking place.
On the international level, papers eyed North Africa's Egypt where 21 Coptic Egyptians were slaughtered by Daesh, to which the Egyptian armed forces replied by aerial raids inside Libya where groups of the extremist organization are located.
Starting with as-Safir newspaper, the daily noted that in light of the ongoing presidential void that leaves office empty, Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah delivered a speech in which he launched clear and precise stances that were of positive nature on the domestic level, especially as he stressed on the importance the continuation of dialogue with the Future party. The paper also pointed out the greetings Sayyed Nasrallah sent to the family of assassinated PM Rafik Hariri on the eve of the painful memory was also important.
As-Safir highlighted that the most crucial part of the speech was that on the regional events, where Sayyed Nasrallah presented himself as a major player in the region, calling on the Lebanese to lead the fight against terrorism just like they were in fighting the "Israeli" occupation without waiting for any national strategies.
The paper summed-up the most important points of the speech on the regional and domestic levels, noting that on the regional level, Sayyed Nasrallah underscored the following:
The Game is over in Syria, and the Syrian regime is ready to reach a concession with the national opposition, with the UN envoy Stephan de Mistura clearly announcing that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is part of the solution.
Gulf countries will pay the price, and these countries have to take decisive decisions as these are subject to the threat of terror, and these have to work together to halt secondary conflicts and focus on the major battle with what has become a clear coalition; "Israel" and the takfiri movements.
If European countries [like Italy for instance] sees national security as a reason to take part in the confrontation of the takfiri groups, then what about the Arab countries with Daesh standing at their borders?
The confrontation of terrorist takfiri threat is a battle to defend Prophet Mohammad and Islam rather than a war of defense for one sect or regime.
Also, remarkable was that Sayyed Nasrallah, and for the first time, delivered a direct message to Egypt and its people, as well as the Coptic church, condemning the violent beheading of the 21 Egyptian Coptic citizens.
On the Lebanese arena, the paper pointed out the most important issues tackled by Sayyed Nasrallah as follows:
Greeting Rafik Hariri's family and their audience and resenting warm wishes on the anniversary of his assassination.
Supporting the call of MP Saad Hariri on putting a national strategic plan to combat takfiri threats.
Totally supporting the security plan in the Bekaa are, West of Lebanon and stressing the importance of its continuation.
Giving the Hizbullah- Free Patriotic Movement agreement a regional dimension for the first time since nine years.
Calling on reviving the national dimension to the presidential elections.
Indirectly calling for the resumption of dialogue between Saad Hariri and head of the Free Patriotic movement Gen. Michel Aoun.
Supporting the government of caretaker Prime Minister Tammam Salam to find a solution to the presidential void.
Continuing dialogue with the Future party until finding a reasonable solution and encouraging other parties to engage in dialogue.
Calling on the necessity of cooperation between the Lebanese army and the Syrin army in confronting the threats of extremism in the region.
On the regional level, former Foreign Minister Assistant of Egypt, ambassador Maasoum Marzouk told as-Safir that "the Egyptian reaction to the latest aggression [in which the Egyptian Coptics were beheaded] which constituted of aerial raids on posts of Daesh inside Libya was a balanced response." He further added that "the response was conducted in coordination with the Libyan government, as well as in accordance with international law."
Cairo carried out air strikes against the so-called Islamic State group targets in Libya on Monday after the extremists posted a video showing the beheadings of 21 Egyptian Christians.
Egypt said a "tough intervention" was needed and with France called on the UN Security Council to "take new measures" against the takfiri terrorists in neighboring Libya.
On another note, the Daily Star reported that the UN envoy to Syria will discuss his proposed "freeze" in fighting in the city of Aleppo with Security Council members Tuesday and is still committed to the Geneva formula to ending the war, according to the envoy's spokesperson. Pro-opposition groups have blasted Stephan de Mistura after he said last week, at the conclusion of his talks with officials in Damascus, that President Bashar Assad should be considered "part of the solution" to the crisis.
For its part, an-Nahar daily said that Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin praised dialogue among the Lebanese parties, considering it a necessity to combat the challenges and risks that the country is passing through.
"Foreign countries support the dialogue, in particular because it is touching on local and regional issues, in the first place the battle against terrorism and extremism," Zasypkin said in an interview with the newspaper on Tuesday.
The Russian diplomat considered the presidential deadlock is linked to all sides in Lebanon, highlighting the importance of activating communication between Christians.
"We are only concerned with the political program of any president... Who should be a guarantee to achieve goals, including stability and security," Zasypkin added.
