THE DAILYSTAR

Minister Vows Garbage Fix Thursday

For the sixth day in a row, Lebanon's streets choke with garbage bags and wastes as the cabinet fails to find a solution to the environmental crisis. Lebanese newspapers did not only shed light on the environmental issue, but also other domestic and regional matters including the current Saudi rejection to paving the way for solving the crises in Lebanon and the region, as well as the Russian role to bring Syria and Saudi Arabia together to find a solution to the 5-year old Syrian crisis.

Russia Sponsors Saudi-Syrian Rapprochement?! --- AS-SAFIR

Well-informed Arab sources said that the Russian president asked Saudi Arabia and Syria to send delegates for an official demand from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Saudi King Salman bin Abdel Aziz to elevate the negotiations to their maximum, reported As-Safir newspaper. During the past few weeks, a process of opening different security channels through Russian patronage has been taking place, said the daily. Lieutenant Ali Mamlouk, head of the national security bureau, was tasked to start the meetings which were first convened in Moscow, while Saudi Arabia's king Salman assigned a major intelligence officer for the mission, according to the well-informed source.

In addition, a Syrian security officer has been traveling back and forth to Moscow since weeks, in an attempt to build trust, as reported another prominent source.

Among the issues discussed and to be included in the ‘truce' is the stop of the media terminology war taking place on Syrian media outlets and Saudi Channels. Moreover, the Turks demonstrated interest in the Russian proposal to eliminate obstacles and attempt to solve the Syrian crisis, and hence sent a Turkish official to Moscow in an attempt to understand the practical procedures of the process.

Also, a trustworthy Western source said that Damascus received a Turkish army general on the third of July, which is unprecedented since the beginning of the war in Syria. This comes in an attempt to cooperate in fighting against "ISIL", and move toward Putin's suggestion.
Minister of State for National Reconciliation Affairs Dr. Ali Haidar affirmed on Sunday that the solution to the crisis in Syria requires international will and a decisive international decision that bans supporting, arming and sending terrorists to Syria.

Saudi Arabia Reject Compromises, Conflicts Ongoing--- AL-AKHBAR

Al-Akhbar newspaper on Thursday noted that at the time the Middle East awaits to see how the outcome of the nuclear deal will affect it, as it seems that Saudi officials reject at present any concessions or compromises that would lead to calming the situation in the region or appeasing the conflict's different parties. On the contrary, according to the paper, Riyadh demonstrates only one desire; more confrontation and conflict whether in Beirut or Aden.

The Lebanese daily said that the new Saudi leadership will not agree to allow Iran to take leadership in the region, hence there will be no solution looming in the horizon whether in Lebanon, Aden, Syria or even Iraq at least for the coming six months.

The paper further said that the only case in which Saudi Arabia would change its stance is in case a dramatic change takes place in the region, forcing the rival powers to sit together on the negotiation table, or maybe the ripening of reasons that would push the US to urge its allies to fight terrorism as a priority. But until then, the paper said that the conflict will only deepen in the different areas of the region.

Lebanon Sees no Soon Waste Management Solution --- AL-LIWAA

For the sixth day in a row, Lebanon plunges in wastes and its streets are blocked with foul-smelling garbage that were set on fire in different areas across Beirut on Wednesday. According to Al-Liwaa newspaper, the session that was held on Wednesday between Lebanon's Prime Minister Tamam Salam and Beirut's MPs in presence of Ministers Mohamad Mashnouq and Nabil De Freij turned into a session of ‘nagging and whining' on the environmental crisis Lebanon is witnessing. According to a ministerial source, there is no hope for the government to see a solution soon concerning the waste management crisis, unless the different sides concerned set interests aside and deal with the matter seriously.

Waste management company Sukleen said Monday it had stopped collecting garbage in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, and won't resume until authorities secure a new dumping ground after Friday's closure of the Na'meh landfill.

The landfill, which had been set to receive 2 million tons of waste but has instead taken over 15 million, used to be the main dump for Beirut and Mount Lebanon. Environment Minister Mohammad Machnouk said Sunday that he would raise the matter again at Thursday's Cabinet session.

Saudi capitulation

Saudi Arabia will eventually be forced to capitulate and stop it regional wrongdoing on behalf of the US and West. Regional resistance will prevail in the end with the recent Iran deal as proof of concept of resistance. Resistance will win in Yemen, Syria, Iraq and eventually, to a large extent at least, for Palestine. Keep up your righteous fight with victory truly in sight.
