Education Minister: Lebanese Officials Should Take Waste Crisis Seriously --- AL-BINAA

Lebanese Education Minister Elias Abu Saab told al-Binaa newspaper that the committee assigned to solve the waste management crisis failed to come out with any agreement or solution after convening on Thursday. According to the minister, the committee also did not agree on a particular landfill where the wastes can be dumped. The paper quoted the minister as saying that Lebanese officials should deal with the crisis seriously; otherwise it will not see any solution soon.

German Cooperation to Resolve Waste Crisis in Lebanon? --- AL-LIWAA

On the same matter, Lebanese Minister of Economy Alan Hakim told al-Liwaa newspaper that he had discussed the issue of transporting wastes outside Lebanon with the former German Health Minister who was on a visit to Lebanon. Hakim said he also contacted the German Ambassador to Lebanon, expressing his will to help his country through this step, noting that the ambassador welcomed the suggestion. The newspaper further pointed out that the waste crisis will be discussed by Hakim and the German ambassador, who will convene a meeting possibly today Friday or this coming Monday.

The waste management crisis erupted on July 17 following the closure of the Naameh landfill south of Beirut, which had been receiving trash from the capital and Mount Lebanon since 1997. The landfill was meant to operate for only a few years until a comprehensive solution was devised. But the government has so far failed to resolve the issue.

Sukleen; the main company in charge of collecting trash in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, stopped its work last week after it was no longer able to store waste at its facilities. Piles of trash filled the sidewalks and streets across Beirut and Mount Lebanon.

Lebanon Should Resolve Its Own Problems: Berri --- AL-JOMHOURIYA

Speaker Nabih Berri reiterated that the government of Prime Minister Tammam Salam is a red line, urging Lebanon's rival officials not to wait for the Iran nuclear deal to resolve the country's crises.

"Bringing down the cabinet means abolishing the country, and this cannot take place," al-Joumhouriya daily published on Friday quoted his visitors as relating.
"The government is a red line, at least for me and for Hizbullah," he said. "Our stance is serious. Let those who want to topple the government try such a move," adding that the Prime Minister is carrying out his responsibilities to guarantee the functioning of the government continues.

Berri's visitors asked him about French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius's recent visit to Tehran as well as President Francois Hollande's announcement that he could travel to Lebanon in the coming months.

"The current stage is transitional," he noted, adding "The nuclear agreement between Iran and the West is still consolidating and two to three months are needed until solutions appear."

"That is why we should resolve our issues in Lebanon, particularly urgent ones, so that we become ready to welcome solutions [from abroad] when they ripen," Berri added.

Baabda Palace has been vacant since President Michel Suleiman's six-year tenure ended in May last year.

Fathali: Nuclear Deal an Accomplishment for All Regional Countries --- AL-AKHBAR

The Islamic Republic's Ambassador to Lebanon told al-Akhbar newspaper that the nuclear deal came as a result of the steadfastness of the resistance front in the first place, and that the deal will have positive consequences on the entire region, particularly when it comes to confronting terrorism and the Zionist entity.
"The nuclear accomplishment belongs to the entire region, we are working hard to demonstrate the positive impact of the deal on the entire region, including all countries," added ambassador Mohammed Fathali.

Fathali hoped that the Saudis would soon understand that the nuclear deal is also "an accomplishment that would benefit the Saudis."

He further stressed that the countries of the Middle East are partners in the battle against terrorism, and urged Turkey to re-evaluate its strategies and calculations when it comes to confronting takfiri movements.
