Lebanese newspapers on Tuesday quoted sources analyzing the importance of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif's visit to Lebanon which will take place on Tuesday the 11th of August in light of the nuclear deal which is expected to bring major changes in the equations of the Middle East region.
On the domestic arena, the uncovering of a new terrorist network recruiting young fighters made the headlines. Also, the dailies followed up on the cabinet issues in discussion including the extension of terms for top officers, the peaceful protests planned by the Free Patriotic Movement and the unresolved waste management crisis.
Terrorist Networks To Recruit, Train Youth Uncovered --- AS-SAFIR
According to As-Safir Lebanese daily, a series of arrests of terrorists in the different Lebanese regions over the past few weeks revealed that the two terrorist organizations of al-Nusra and ISIL have high capabilities in recruiting young men whether Lebanese, Syrian or Palestinian [majorly from the refugee camps in Lebanon] where specialized groups are in charge of transferring them through Turkey to the Syrian territories to take part in training and fighting.
As-Safir came to know that the security forces uncovered a new terrorist network made up of three Syrian nationals. According to the source, one of the terrorists known as ‘Abu Khatab' had been using his facebook account to communicate with al-Nusra terrorist leaders, providing them with maps on how to reach particular targets, as well as information on the ‘Resistance Brigades' in Lebanon. The security forces have been monitoring the movement of the cell for almost three years, said the sources.
On a related note on Monday, the Lebanese Army said it has arrested a man suspected of plotting terrorist acts and recruiting would-be suicide bombers, three of whom were also detained.
In an online statement, the Army said Abdelrahman Tarek al-Kilany was arrested as soon as he entered Lebanon over involvement in recruiting the militants. It said he recruited the militants during a period when he was living outside the country.
The suspect, whose nationality was not mentioned, allegedly confessed during interrogations to belonging to the organization led by notorious militants Shadi Mawlawi and Osama Mansour.
Kilany also confessed to taking part in assaults against the Army in Tripoli, the statement added.
When abroad, Kilany was ordered by Mawlawi and suspected militant Bilal Badr to recruit young suicide bombers. He admitted to recruiting three Lebanese nationals to carry out attacks.
Those three, who are also in custody, told interrogators they were involved in plots to attack Army and Internal Security Forces positions.
Lebanon Platform for Iranian Message to Saudi Arabia--- AL-BINAA
The visit of Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Lebanon will take place on Tuesday and Thursday, in a protocol program through which the Islamic Republic assures that it will not interfere in the Lebanese affairs, especially the presidential impasse. Instead, Zarif and according to well-informed sources will take Lebanon as a platform to extend Iran's hand to some Arab countries, especially Saudi Arabia, to cooperate
on resolving the static regional files particularly the Syrian and Yemeni crises.
According to al-Binaa newspaper, the visit will allow Lebanese officials to know more about the nuclear deal.
Zarif, before starting his diplomatic mission will visit the rest place of Hizbullah martyr leader Imad Moghnieh in the Southern Suburbs of Beirut, before he heads to visit Lebanese Prime Minister Tamam Salam. Zarif will also meet House speaker Nabih Berri and his Lebanese counterpart Jebran Bassil as well as Hizbullah Secretary general His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and the Palestinian factions before giving a press conference and heading to Syria.
Political sources assured that the Iranian visit is important because "its timing comes after the nuclear deal." Furthermore, sources added that "the Iranian FM will renew Iran's stance on Lebanon's presidential elections, reassuring that it is a Lebanese domestic matter and that Tehran supports whatever decision the Lebanese arrive to, also assuring that Iran is keen on Lebanon's stability."
Moreover, sources from the Iranian embassy in Lebanon reported that the FM will explain to Lebanese officials what happened during the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 countries, as well as assure Iran's firm stances on the different matters and its appreciation to the role of Lebanon in fighting takfirism and the Zionist enemy."
Zarif Reassures Iran's Support to Resistance, Palestine --- AL-JOMHOURIA
The Lebanese daily al-Jomhouria said on Tuesday that in light of the political tension taking Lebanon by storm, the Iranian FM Mohammad Javad Zarif starts his visit to Lebanon on Tuesday, where he is supposed to meet top officials in the country including Hizbullah Secretary General His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
Diplomatic sources told the newspaper that Zarif's visit to Lebanon comes within the framework of his tour on the countries of West Asia, which aims at explaining the different angles of the nuclear deal concluded with the West, as well as provide help in resolving the regional problems sweeping across the Middle East.
The sources said Zarif's visit also comes to reassure Iran's fixed stance on Syria and the Lebanese resistance which has not changed, unlike what some think especially after the deal.
Moreover, the sources note that this visit is also a clear message that Iran's policy remains to be as it is, stressing that Lebanon and the Resistance have a special place in Iran's foreign policy, not to mention that the Palestinian cause is a central cause to Iran as well. Therefore, the sources stressed that Iran, since the victory of the Islamic revolution has supported the peoples of Palestine and Lebanon in face of the "Israeli" aggressions and will remain to do so.
Also, diplomatic sources said Zarif will underscore the importance of enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries, and reassure Iran's willingness to cooperate with Lebanon in the different fields.
