AL-BINAA: Why Not Sorting and Treatment Factories?
Sources told al-Binaa newspaper on Friday that the government seems to insist on setting up garbage landfills in the Beqaa valley at the time it could start waste sorting and treatment factories that can provide jobs for tens of families, not to mention it would be an additional source to generating electricity.
Prime Minister Tammam Salam Thursday implied he may resign in the coming days if the garbage crisis isn't quickly resolved to pressure political rivals locked in disputes to "assume their responsibilities."
"Waste management is still a stumbling block due to political differences," the premier said, adding that he "will take the necessary stance within days if the crisis wasn't radically resolved."
The cabinet has been unable to convene because of major differences between its members on the promotion of high-ranking military officers and the decision-making mechanism that it should adopt in light of the presidential impasse.
Agriculture Minister Akram Shehayyeb has been leading efforts to resolve the garbage crisis that erupted with the closure of the Naameh landfill in July as politicians failed to find an alternative for it.
On another note, political sources told the paper that the regional environment does not imply there will be escalation in Lebanon, noting that Iran and Saudi Arabia aimed at regulating the relation between Hizbullah and the Future party, and that House Speaker Nabih Berri has guaranteed to cool the tension and assure there is no alternative other than dialogue.
AL-JOMHOURIA: Army Dismantles Establishing ‘Islamic Emirate' in Lebanon
High-ranking military source told al-Jomhouria newspaper on Friday that arresting the terrorist network in South Lebanon's Sida revealed for the first time that "ISIL" had direct links to the terrorist organization in Syria's Raqqa.
According to the source, the legal judge of "ISIL", a Palestinian called Ziyad Kaoush and his brother Jihad had travelled from Lebanon a while ago to Syria, where they met with Reqqa's "ISIL" prince, who gave them orders to carry out attacks and explosions targeting the Lebanese army and its posts across Saida. They were also given orders to assassinate some political figures and link the Palestinian camps in Lebanon together to pave the way for establishing a so-called "Islamic Emirate" to replace the Tripoli Emirate that was dismantled by the Lebanese army.
AS-SAFIR: "ISIL" Planned to Target Ashura Ceremonies in Lebanon
On the same topic, As-Safir newspaper uncovered that the terrorists arrested by the Lebanese Security Forces confessed that "ISIL" was planning to execute terrorist acts using car bombs and suicide-bombers as well as attacks where terrorists would open live fire to target the Southern Suburbs of Beirut during the commemoration of the Ashura ceremonies.
The Lebanese security forces on Thursday thwarted the "ISIL" terrorist group's plot to launch a series of terrorist operations and suicide blasts on mourners during the ceremonies, marking the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad.
The "ISIL" terrorist has confessed that he had infiltrated into Lebanon through Raqqa province in Northern Syria.
The Ain al-Hilweh camp is home to more than 54,000 registered Palestinian refugees who have been joined in recent years by thousands of Palestinians fleeing the fighting in Syria, especially after their camp near Damascus came under attack by different groups of militants.
AL-AKHBAR: Saudi Arabia Impeding Yemeni Negotiations
Saudi Arabia is impeding negotiations from taking place even though it claimed it has approved and blessed the Yemeni-Yemeni talks to bring the war to end, well-informed sources told al-Akhbar newspaper.
Diplomatic sources told the paper that "Saudi Arabia itself asked to postpone the Geneva Conference, imposing the condition of applying Resolution 2216 without pre-conditions before any negotiations."
According to the source, the Saudis demanded that for the negotiations to take place, the Ansarullah should drop their weapons, surrender and cut all ties and relations with Iran."
The negotiations to which the Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmed had called last week and which was accepted by all sides will not take place by the end of this month as declared.
Moreover, the sources assured that the latest military enforcement seems to prepare for new military attacks rather than truce, especially with the arrival of six thousand Sudanese soldiers so far.
