Will A Settlement Take Place; Suleiman Franjieh As President?
Lebanese newspapers on Tuesday followed up on the developments related to the presidential elections in Lebanon, as news circulate on the possibility of a settlement by electing head of the Marada Party Suleiman Franjieh as a new president and by that end the ongoing stalemate. Papers also shed light on the historical visit of Russia's Vladimir Putin to the Islamic Republic of Iran and his meeting with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution His Eminence Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei, and the multi-dimensional agreements and messages that were the fruits of the visit.
Also, papers stressed the Russian and Iranian stance on the right of the Syrian people to determine their own fate and elect their leadership.
AN-NAHAR: Wellbeing of Lebanon Most Important, Waste Crisis on Path to Solution
Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam told An-Nahar newspaper that "any meeting or dialogue between the Lebanese political parties is more than welcome if it pours into the interest of the country and its wellbeing."
News have been circulating on a meeting between head of the Mustaqbal party Saad Hariri and head of the Marada party Suleiman Franjieh in Paris in what media outlets described as an attempt to resolve the presidential impasse.
On another note, Salam told the newspaper that the Agriculture Minister Akram Shehayeb is still working hard and following up on the waste management crisis, as he has been contacting several companies to transport the garbage.
"We hope to reach a deal by next week, we are very late is resolving the issue but exporting wastes is something completely new to Lebanon and requires time and precision not to mention the high cost required to carry out the process," the PM said.
He added "We have to study the matter very well before we take any decision, and that is simultaneously happening while resolving other matters in the cabinet."
AL-JOMHOURIA: All Initiatives to Solve Lebanese Crisis Welcome
Lebanese Culture Minister Roni Orayji assured to al-Jomhouria newspaper that "whether a meeting has taken place between Saad Hariri and Suleiman Franjieh or not, what matters is that a positive political movement should take place in Lebanon."
According to the newspaper, the minister went on to say that Lebanon should finally put an end to the political crisis the country is passing through. He supported and hailed all initiatives taking place in the country, including that of Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
AS-SAFIR: Ukraine, Qatar to Provide Syrian Groups with Missile System, Experts
A Russian expert told As-Safir newspaper on Tuesday that the mobile missile system to be provided to the terrorist groups in Syria is part of a deal between Qatar and Ukraine.
According to the source, Ukraine might send along with the system experts to train the Syrians on how to run the system, pointing out that the process will at least take 6 months.
CyberBerkut, a collective hacking group had said Saturday that it's in possession of documents indicating that employees of the Ukrainian state-owned defense conglomerate ‘Ukroboronprom' had discussions with Qatari government officials over the possible sale of surface-to-air missiles in September, according to Sputnik International, a state-controlled Russian media outlet.
