The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq [UNAMI] said that thousands of people lost their lives and many more sustained injuries as a result of the ongoing violence in Iraq in the current year.
The UN mission announced that at least 11,118 Iraqis, mostly civilians, were killed in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict so far this year.
According to the mission, a great portion of the fatalities was recorded in the capital, Baghdad, and the Takfiri "ISIS" militant group was responsible for most of the attacks.
Just on the day that the report came out, at least three people were killed and more than a dozen others injured in a series of bomb explosions in residential neighborhoods in Baghdad.
As the report was made public, separate terrorist attacks claimed the lives of several citizens and caused injuries among many others.
Relatively, violence plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since "ISIS" terrorists launched an offensive in June 2014, and took control of parts of the Iraqi territory.
Militants have been committing crimes against all ethnic and religious communities in Iraq, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and others.
Meanwhile, units of army soldiers joined by fighters from allied Popular Mobilization units are battling to win back militant-held regions in joint operations.
