IRGC Denies Rockets Fired near US Carrier

Relatively, Head of the IRGC Public Relations Department Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif stressed that it is Iran's fundamental policy to safeguard the safety and security of strategic point Persian Gulf.

In response to the recent claims of Americans that IRGC fired several rockets in Persian Gulf last week, Sharif explained that IRGC navy forces did not hold any military exercises last week nor at the date claimed by Americans.

"Publication of such false news under current conditions is more of a psychological warfare," he further added.

In the context, the US officials claimed that Iran fired several rockets near an American aircraft carrier in the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.

However, unnamed US military officials claimed that the rockets were fired from vessels belonging to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps [IRGC] during a military exercise on December 26.

Claims also included that the rockets were fired some 1,500 yards from the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman and two accompanying warships.

The US officials, nevertheless, said that "the rockets were not fired at the Truman and other ships, only near them."

In addition, US military spokesman Kyle Raines said Tuesday that the rockets were fired "in close proximity" of the US warship and nearby merchant traffic "after providing only 23 minutes of advance notification."

The aircraft carrier reportedly entered the Persian Gulf last month to support US military operations in Iraq and Syria.
