The condition of a Palestinian journalist on a 48-day hunger strike in a Zionist jail is deteriorating, according to his wife's statement.

Hunger-striking Palestinian Detainee in Critical Condition

Mohammed al-Qeq is protesting his six-month sentence without trial or charge, under a measure called administrative detention.

In the context, Palestinian minister of prisoner affairs, Issa Qaraqe described the prisoner's situation as saying: "al-Qeq is in critical condition after 48 days in hunger strike and his life is at risk."

Consequently, al-Qeq is being monitored in an "Israeli" hospital, according to the prison's service, which would not comment on his condition. Relatively, his wife said that the Zionist entity "accused him of incitement."

Al-Qeq, 33, works as a correspondent for the Saudi al-Majd channel and also appears as an analyst on channels linked to the Hamas resistance movement. He was arrested in the past for his activities with Hamas' student organization. Recently, he was arrested on November 21.

Hunger strikes have been used in the past by Palestinian prisoners to draw attention to their detention without trial or charges. However, al-Qeq is the first detained journalist to do so.

Fearing that a fasting detainee's death could spark anger, "Israel" at times acceded to hunger strikers' demands by agreeing to release them at the end of their terms of detention. Yet, sometimes it used to extend the administrative detention of alleged suspects.

Nevertheless, an argumentative law passed last year allows the "Israelis" to force-feed a hunger striker if his life is in danger, even if the prisoner refuses.
