AS-SAFIR: "Israel" Trying to Impose New Maritime Borders, Steal Lebanon's Oil

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri told As-Safir newspaper on Monday that he is sure that "Israel" is eying Lebanon's maritime oil riches located in the reserves adjacent to occupied Palestine. He noted that "Israel" has been trying to impose new maritime borders with Lebanon, with the aim of controlling these oil wells.

Also, Berri stressed that the "Israeli" government has been pressuring some of the international oil extraction companies so that these would not invest in the Lebanese blocks, just like it has been so adherent to its occupation of the Shebaa farms and preserving its water interests.

Berri said that a study shows that there are shared oil reserves with "Israel", particularly in the Blocks number 8 and 9 located south.

In September 2013, Lebanon published tenders for offshore oil and gas exploration licenses in five blocks in its EEZ. Meanwhile, "Israel" claimed the southernmost license, Block 9, encroaches on the border that "Israel" claims for its EEZ. This license is considered attractive with high chances of a major natural gas discovery.

In response to the "Israeli" claims, caretaker Energy Minister Gibran Bassil lashed out several times at "Israel", considering that it can't prevent Lebanon from protecting its oil reserves.

He further revealed that "Israel" is digging a well 5 kilometers from Lebanese offshore reserves. In 2010, Lebanon submitted to the UN its proofs, based on the land border set when after the 2000 "Israeli" withdrawal from southern Lebanon. The Lebanese area which the Zionist entity seeks to control covers 850 square kilometers in a triangle.

AL-AKHBAR: New Campaign Targeting Lebanese Expats, Linked to US Act

A new part of the synchronized media campaign targeting the economic frame of the Lebanese expatriates in Paraguay has surfaced, which was a scenery for previous attacks against some Lebanese expats living in the country following the 9/11 events where several men were arrested under the claims that they belong to the Lebanese resistance party, said al-Akhbar newspaper on Monday.

According to the paper, the new campaign seemed directly linked to the American measures carried out against what is called the "Hizbullah incubating environment", which are being coming into effect inside Lebanon, adding that the organized campaign soon reached Latin America where many Lebanese expats reside and work in trade.

On another note, the Lebanese intelligence branch told the newspaper that it had arrested a "precious catch". The intelligence forces had arrested a terrorist belonging to Daesh [Arabic acronym for "ISIS" / "ISIL"], who served as an "information bank" and revealed important information on future terrorist plans intended to be carried out inside Lebanon.

According to the source, the security apparatus declared a state of alert, especially after the terrorist confessed that the group is planning to carry out several explosions in Beirut's southern suburb Dahiyeh, in Beirut the capital as well as target a few embassies in the country during the month of Ramadan.

Earlier in May, the security forces arrested a senior commander of the Daesh Takfiri group in the country's northeastern region near the border with Syria. Also, on April 28, the army killed another senior Daesh commander, named as Nayef Sha'alan, in an operation in Arsal's Wadi al-Hosn region.

AN-NAHAR: Communication between Central Bank, Hizbullah Ongoing

Sources told An-Nahar newspaper that in terms of the American sanctions imposed on Hizbullah and its society, there has been constant communication between the head of the Central Bank Riyadh Salameh and the resistance party, and that many issues have been clarified since then.

On December 18, 2015, US President Barack Obama signed into law the so-called Hizbullah International Financing Prevention Act.

The legislation says Washington will target those "knowingly facilitating a significant transaction or transactions for" Hizbullah or any individual, business or institution linked to the group.

Last week, House Speaker Nabih Berri asserted that the US Act which imposes financial sanctions and banking restrictions on Hizbullah targets all the Shiites, not only the party.
