Terrorism Hits al-Qaa...Syrian War Threatens Stability
Lebanese newspapers on Tuesday were busy discussing the terrorist attacks that targeted the Lebanese town of al-Qaa near the Syrian borders, where 5 were killed and around 25 injured.
Most newspapers discussed the implications of the attacks, as well as the confessions of arrested suspects affiliated to the terrorist group Daesh [Arabic acronym for "ISIS" / "ISIL"] which revealed dangerous information on attacks being prepared to be carried out in Lebanon.
AL-AKHBAR: Terrorists Confess to Facts on Operations in Lebanon
Al-Akhbar newspaper said on Tuesday that major figures from the Daesh organization fell in the grip of the Lebanese security forces and according to their confessions, a number of them are linked to the leadership of the extremist group in Syria's Raqqa. According to the paper, they belong to a particular group that is in charge of carrying out operations abroad, including explosions, suicide bombing and assassinations.
According to investigations, the Daesh terror group is searching for members who are "clear" on the security level and are not wanted by any security apparatuses in the country. These suspects are renting apartments in areas that are not suspicious such as Ashrafieh in the Eastern part of Beirut. The aim of renting these apartments is to store and hide explosives and host suicide-bombers who are sent by "the security Emir" that is in charge of the operations carried out in Lebanon.
Sources told the newspaper that the members of Daesh were also in touch with arms dealers, as they were trying to purchase some machineguns and rifles, which implies that the attacks were not bloodier than just explosions or suicide attacks.
Moreover, the sources said that the organization is preparing to send a number of suicide-bombers, asking their members renting these apartments to host them, and uncovered that it is also planning to deliver explosive belts hidden in cars to these terrorists.
AN-NAHAR: Syrian Refugees Camps Shelter for Terrorists
An-Nahar newspaper on Tuesday said that the terrorist war launched on al-Qaa town was of grave nature especially as the second wave of attacks was not prevented by the security forces and the reinforcements in the area. Sources said that the attacks could have been the bloodiest since the 1978 massacre.
According to sources, the Syrian refugee camps at the outskirts of the town aggravate the situation. The sources quoted the people of the town as saying on Monday that "The situation in this area has become similar to Nah al-Bared camp and its dangers, especially that the terrorists use these camps and its people as a hide until carrying out their attacks."
Lebanon's northeastern village of al-Qaa is still in a state of alert as fresh suicide bombings rocked the town on Monday evening, injuring eight people. Three suicide bombers riding motorcycles blew themselves up in the center of the predominantly Christian town on Monday night. The overnight attack came only hours after four suicide bombers killed five people and wounded 15 others in the town before dawn.
Security Forces began a comprehensive search of the entire border village, as the army's Airborne Regiment launched raid operations in the town's outskirts in search of the suspects.
AL-BINAA: Political Decision Needed in Face of Terrorism
Sources close to Head of the Parliament Nabih Berri told al-Binaa newspaper that Berri said "What happened in the town of al-Qaa should be a motivation for the Lebanese to fortify their internal arena."
According to the source, Berri pointed out that "The security situation is still in good shape despite the political instability in the country," assuring that the Lebanese army and security forces are carrying out their duties.
Nevertheless, Berri said that this is not enough, and underscored that security requires the presence of political stability. He further went on to say that the attacks on al-Qaa should be a lesson to all the Lebanese and should push them towards faster solutions to the pending files in the country as well as towards reaching political understanding.
On a related note, Head of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party Assad Hardan told al-Binaa newspaper that the terrorism that is sweeping across the area with its barbaric crimes has Lebanon on the top of its list.
According to Hardan, the al-Qaa attacks as well as the previous attacks across Lebanon supports this fact. He stressed that there should be a political decision that is decisive and all-inclusive, where all parties in the country stand united together in face of extremism and terrorism.
