What are Diplomatic, Intelligence and Military Implications of Aleppo Advances?
The following is some selected topics discussed in September 10, 2016 editions of the Lebanese newspapers:
Summing up the Syrian scene, with the international efforts to find a resolution in this respect, Lebanese newspapers wrote the following:
Mohammad Ballout wrote for as-Safir:
A Russian-American plan, composed of 5 documents was the result of the many idle rounds of both John Kerry and Sergey Lavrov until yesterday.
It is not much expected that such watchful agreement would be successful. The agreement, until the moment, doesn't include any political detail; especially that all results of the negotiations will be sent to the Security Council before being issued on September 12.
The plan includes a seven-day truce, divided into two 48-hour parts, and would be extended if proved successful, in which the last one would last 72-hours.
It is an unprecedented deal for its clear and strict timeline, despite the lack of control and observation techniques of implementations, points which are considered main deficiencies. However, it is different from the February truce as it is linked to following phases, moving from the truce to an implemented ceasefire.
For its part, al-Akhbar newspaper discussed the same issue, putting the al-Nusra Front in front of Aleppo and stopping air sorties:
Finally, Moscow and Washington threw a bundle of agreements in the early morning.
The underlined points would lead to ending hostilities in Syria and cooperation between both parties to hit Daesh and al-Nusra in front of all those concerned with the Syrian struggle, atop of which is Damascus, which is committed to the decided items, according to Lavrov.
The agreement, in all, comprises the following: Washington handed al-Nusra's destiny to Moscow in return of two achievements: Russian agreement to stabilize the current situation in Aleppo, along with opening a crossing from city's north [Castillo] towards the eastern neighborhoods.
In addition, the Russians also accept to set the Syrian airforce aside from the areas where the Americans and the Russians are operating.
Relatively, an-Nahar newspaper wrote that in the press conference held by Lavrov and Kerry in Geneva, the former noted that the United States is hindering the agreement on Syria.
On the field level, the paper stated that the Syrian army and its allies' progress in al-Ramousseh south Aelppo led to re-opening the main road to government-held areas west Aelppo. The progress also led to fully re-surrounding the militant-held eastern neighborhoods.
Moving to Europe, an-Nahar went further in the issue of terrorist attacks there:
The Paris prosecutor Francois Moulin declared arresting three women after finding a car loaded with gas jars near the Notre Dame Paris Church. The women have received instructions from Daesh extremists in Syria, and were completely convinced about the issue.
One of them was going to be married to the terrorist who slayed two officers in late June, who then conducted the attack against the church in Normandy in late July.
For his part, President Francois Hollande, on the sidelines of his Athens visit, confirmed foiling an attack and getting rid of a cell after discovering a car loaded with gas jars in Paris last weekend, in addition to arresting three female extremists Thursday evening.
"We foiled an attack, we got rid of a cell, yet there are many others," Hollande stated, calling for "maximum watchfulness and alertness."
Moving to the Zionist entity, as-Safir newspaper went deep in discussing the issue of the "Israeli" oil:
In this regard, Helmi Musa wrote that, according to The New York Times, "Israel" has been lately suffering from huge difficulties in the sea oil sector as international energy companies are not willing to cooperate with it, fearing of collusion with Arab boycott laws.
However, to facilitate investments, a delegation of "Israeli" experts from the ministry of energy traveled to convince international companies with participating in donations to achieve new licenses for excavating oil and gas in the "Israeli" economic waters. The energy minister himself traveled to participate in such attempts.
For his part, Dawoud Rammal discussed the issue from the Lebanese side:
The trick "Israel" is trying to pass behind Lebanon as well as the international community has been uncovered.
What was previously leaked on separating the northern blocks in the occupied Palestine on the Lebanese sea border "wasn't but a lie to prevent Lebanon from offering the south blocks, and to avoid adding Lebanese pressuring factors that start with politics and ends with missiles," according to an informed official source.
