Trump’s New Ambassador to «Israel» Plans to «Move Embassy» to Al-Quds
Local Editor
Sources in the presidential team of the US elect president Donald Trump said he is planning to appoint the former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee as the US ambassador to the "Israeli" entity.
Huckabee is known for supporting "Israeli" settlements in the occupied West Bank. He had previously called for annexing the occupied West Bank to the "Israeli" entity. According to the Telegraph, he will be tasked to "Transfer the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds [Jerusalem]."
Reports of Huckabee's appointment were published in several outlets both in the US and the "Israeli" entity, but were later denied by Huckabee who said he had "never discussed" the appointment with President-elect Trump and that the position not be filled until a new State Department hierarchy was in place.
If it was confirmed, his appointment to a politically sensitive post would be the first indication of a shift in US foreign policy under a Trump administration, even though during the campaign the president-elect had professed neutrality over the "Israeli"-Palestinian conflict.
Relations between Barack Obama and Benjamin Netanyahu, had been frosty for some time with the "Israeli" prime minister enraged at the administration's nuclear negotiations with Iran.
The nadir came in March last year when Netanyahu broke all rules of diplomatic etiquette to deliver a blistering attack on the administration in a speech to Congress.
According to the Telegraph, media reports of Huckabee as a candidate for the job reflects a desire among Trump's evangelical Christian supporters for a significant change of direction and a "reset" with the "Israeli" entity.
The US would be the first country to locate its embassy in al-Quds [Jerusalem], which the "Israeli" entity claimed as its capital since 1980, having captured the entire city in the 1967 six-day war.
Huckabee had previously supervised visits made by Republications to the "Israeli" entity, including visiting illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank. He also maintains strong relationships among "Israeli" settler groups.
He calls for unlimited construction in the West Bank and annexing the West Bank to the "Israeli" entity.
Huckabee is a long standing supporter of the "Israeli" regime. He has been taking groups to the country since 1981, with the next trip scheduled for February 2017.
In his 2008 campaign, he was quoted as saying that "Basically, I mean, there really is no such thing as - I need to be careful about saying this, because people will really get upset - there's really no such thing as a Palestinian. There's not."
According to Huckabee, the concept of a Palestinian is "a political tool to try to force land away from Israel." He has also harshly criticized the "Israeli" withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in the West Bank during a meeting with donors in Brooklyn.
