Trump Picks US Ambassador to «Israel»
Local Editor
US President-elect Donald Trump had chosen lawyer David Friedman to serve as America's ambassador to the "Israeli" entity.
The 57 year old advised Trump on US-"Israel" issues during the campaign.
A statement by Trump's transition team said Friedman's "strong relationships in ‘Israel' will form the foundation of his diplomatic mission".
Friedman said he looked forward to working "from the US Embassy in ‘Israel's' eternal capital, Jerusalem", a move that will anger the Palestinians.
They see East al-Quds [Jerusalem] as part of their sovereign territory.
The United Nations [UN] does not recognize al-Quds as the "Israeli" entity's capital, and the US embassy has been located in Tel Aviv for decades.
But Trump had promised during the presidential campaign to move it to al-Quds, one of several overtures he made to the apartheid entity.
J Street, a liberal pro-"Israel" group based in Washington, said it was "vehemently" opposed to the nomination of Friedman.
"Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had not enjoyed warm relations with Democratic President Barack Obama, had welcomed Trump's election.
