Syria: Army Makes Major Gains in Parallel with Geneva Talks Commencement

Respectively, Syria's chief negotiator in Geneva Bashar al-Jaafari made clear on Friday that a US- or Turkish-backed attack on Daesh [the Arabic acronym for the Takfiri ‘ISIS/ISIL' group] in the Syrian city of Raqqa would be illegitimate unless coordinated with President Bashar al-Assad's government.

"Any military presence on our territory without the approval of the Syrian government is an illegitimate presence," Bashar al-Jaafari told reporters after meeting UN envoy Staffan de Mistura.

Meanwhile, Syria's army and its allies retook a village near Hama on Saturday, a Syrian military source said, as the government tries to turn back a major insurgent offensive, but bitter fighting continued according to a war monitor.

Also on Saturday, the army forces pushed out Jabhat Fatah al Sham [former Nusra Front] terrorists from the village of Kokab in the Syrian province of Hama.

Earlier on Friday, the army said it had managed to recapture all the positions it lost early in Damascus in the week to militants in the Jobar area, on the northeastern fringe of the capital's central district.

Relatively, an informed source at the scene said that the Syrian Armed Forces on Friday established control of the city of Dayr Hafir in the Aleppo province.

The source said the liberation of the city was preceded by a series of bitter clashes between the army and Daesh terrorists.

Dayr Hafir is Daesh last major stronghold on the Syrian army's way to Raqqa.
